Who should get custody of their child?
Child custody battles are one of the most unfortunate fallouts of a divorce. When a couple can’t reach an agreement about child custody, the case can end up in courts. It can get complicated and nasty as each parent claims that they are the “better” parent. After looking at both sides, the court will ultimately decide who should be awarded custody based on the child’s best interests. While most couples can have their day in court quietly, Hollywood celebrities are offered no such luxury. Case in point, the celebrity custody battle between singer/actor Tyrese Gibson and his ex-wife Norma Gibson.
The two are currently embroiled in a bitter custody battle for their six-year-old daughter. According to TMZ, in February Norma Gibson refused to let her daughter go with Tyrese when he went to pick her up for a visit. Norma said the girl was sick, and had called the police ahead of time since she thought Tyrese would have a problem with being denied the visitation. While the incident resolved peacefully, sources told TMZ that Tyrese wants a judge to hold Norma in contempt of court for violating the custody agreement.
Norma is claiming that Tyrese is an unfit parent.
To support this claim, she filed court documents that mentioned how the death of actor Paul Walker, the star of Fast & Furious 7, affected his relationship with his daughter. Tyrese was filming the movie with Walker, but due to his death the movie filming was put on hold. Norma claimed in court documents that instead of staying home in L.A. to be with their daughter, Tyrese went “gallivanting throughout Dubai…staying in expensive hotels…partying on yachts, sky-diving with other movie stars, driving expensive cars, and making special appearances in night clubs.” Tyrese said he went to Dubai on business and to make money so that he could pay for child support.
Meanwhile, Tyrese has been posting videos on YouTube directed to his daughter and meant to educate her about self-confidence and self-worth. While some view the videos as sweet, others feel that he is putting out the videos to show the public what a good father he is. So what do you think of this celebrity custody battle? Who do you believe should have primary custody of their daughter?
